Release of Italy
22. June 2018Openflightmaps will once again add another territory, Italy, to the countries covered by the project. This will take the new total up to 19 countries supported by the project.
It is important to emphasize that each one of these 19 territories require constant and rigorous maintenance, to ensure that all of the information is always current. The rate of progress is encouraging, since so far three new territories have been added in 2018, and there are some more in the pipeline.
Finland Release
4. April 2018In early April 2018 openflightmaps will once again add another territory, Finland, to the countries covered by the project. This will take the new total up to 18 countries supported by the project. With Finland the openflightmaps project reaches into the Artic Circle, the furthest north of all of the territories supported by openflightmaps.
It is important to emphasize that each one of these 18 territories require constant and rigorous maintenance, to ensure that all of the information is always current. The rate of progress is encouraging, since so far two new territories have been added in 2018, and there are some more in the pipeline.
Slovak Republic joins OFMA
7. March 2018As from March 7, 2018, a new country, Slovakia, will be added to the countries covered by the OFM Project.
Following this new addition, a total of 17 countries are now covered by OFM.

Big steps are being made to bring the data in finland up to publication level. We plan to issue the region within the next cycles – thanks to the AOPA Finland – main OFM contributor of this work. Here are some preview pictures of the Helsinki area:
Greece and Namibia

Finally we have added another two countries to the OFM Universe, Greece and Namibia. Data and Charts are online already, jobs for tiles are also being setup already, even if this will take a few more days.

14. August 20174 New Countries available on OFM
As from the next AIRAC cycle, on July 20, 2017, there Will be 4 more countries covered by the OFM maps. These countries are as follows:
This means that a total of 14 countries in Europe are now covered by OFM. We are very pleased with this progress, because it means that we have incorporated into our group people who are able to complete the maintenance of the OFM data. Experience has shown us that it is relatively simple to input the basic data for a country for the first time, but the moer challenging task is related to ensuring that the data is maintained constantly up to date. The 14 countries now covered by the OFM are as follows:
The rate at which new countries are added to the OFM not only depends on the availability of competent contributors, but is restricted by the need for their training and supervision. It is best to grow at a moderate speed maintaining a very high quality, rather than sacrificing quality for speed.
Improvements to the basemap
During the past month, a number of small changes have been made to the basemap used by the OFM. These changes, although individually very small, collectively provide significant improvements to the readability of the maps: shadings have been improved to enhance clarity and the positioning and format of the labels has been improved yet again, along with other small improvements.
